Hunsruecker Glasveredelung Wagener can accurately cut nearly all materials such as glass, wood, natural stone, plastics, metal, etc. down to the precise millimeter using water. And this goes beyond simple straight cuts; figures can be cut into even the hardest materials. We want to introduce this cutting method briefly in a few words: We differentiate between pure and abrasive water jet cutting, whereby the former is frequently used in the foodstuffs industry and paper processing. Abrasive water jet cutting is used successfully in our company for harder materials such as glass, whereby granite sand (iron-free, mineral abrasive agent without water-soluble constituents) is added to the water to increase the cutting power. The principle of water jet cutting consists of building up high pressure (3500-4000 bars), whereby the initial oil pressure is converted into a high water pressure. Moreover the water is pressed through a gem-stone nozzle accelerating it to approximately 850 m/s (approx. 2.5 times the speed of sound). The water then travels to a mixing chamber containing the abrasive agent, where it is mixed. This mixture is then shaped to certain cutting diameter by a focusing nozzle. Nearly all materials can be cut to the specified thickness with the abrasive water jet; here are a few examples: | Material | | Thickness | | | | | | Aluminium | | 0-50 mm | | General structural steel | | 0-50 mm | | Stainless Steel | | 0-40 mm | | Titanium | | 0-40 mm | | Glass | | 0-50 mm | Fibre glass reinforced/ carbon reinforced plastics | | 0-80 mm | | Copper, brass | | 0-50 mm | | Marble, granite, synthetic stone | | 0-50 mm | | Plastics | | 0-80 mm | This process offers many advantages:
 | Abrasive water jet cutting does not endanger the health of our employees; with this method no vapours or dust are produced, because the material removed is bound immediately. | | There are no limitations to material selection. | | The material is not deformed by heat (cold cutting process), not even in the cutting area. | | Raw material loss is minimised, because the cutting gap is very narrow. | | The accuracy is ± 0.1 mm. | | High cutting quality | | High flexibility for cutting contours and minimum costs |
